The Austrian rosé section is small but characteristic: four wines that demonstrate both poles of Austrian rosé production. Austria is not a rosé country in terms of mass production — wineries long produced rosé as a byproduct of red wine production. Only in the last ten years has it become a standalone product.
Our selection includes Zweigelt Rosé from Weingut Nimmervoll in the Weinviertel — dry, with strawberry and fine acidity, a typical Austrian everyday rosé. We also have the biodynamic “naked rosé” from Gernot Heinrich at Lake Neusiedl: Saignée rosé from Blaufränkisch and Zweigelt, unfined, with a slightly cloudy appearance and unconventional style.
If you want to try rosé beyond the Southern French school, you'll find a clearly defined entry point here — albeit with a small selection. For breadth and grape variety depth, see Rosé Wine Germany or Rosé Wine Italy.
