Sparkling Tea is the youngest category among sparkling beverages — and one of the most exciting. Instead of grape must, the beverage is made from brewed and fermented tea, with or without added carbonation, with or without alcohol. 14 products in the range.
The pacesetter in this category is the Copenhagen Sparkling Tea Company with several lines: the classic non-alcoholic cuvées (Blå, Lyserød, Lysegrøn) and the 5% vol. variants (Grøn, Rød, Vinter), which achieve their alcohol content through targeted fermentation. van Nahmen offers three "Sparkling Juicy Tea" cuvées (Verbena-Jasmine-Riesling, Rose-Darjeeling-Rhubarb, White Tea-Vanilla-Quince). Also, Jörg Geiger's Teasecco.
Serve at 6–8 °C. As an aperitif, Sparkling Tea functions similarly to a Brut sparkling wine, but with tea tannins instead of tartaric acid. This makes it particularly interesting with Asian dishes.
